K-8 School MathCounts
MathCounts is a national math enrichment, coached and competition program for 6th through 8th grade students. With over 22 years of existence and experience, MathCounts is one of the most recognized, published and successful programs of its kind. The program is open to all OSLS Jr. High students interested in mathematics.
OSLS has been privileged to have had several dedicated and qualified volunteer MathCounts coaches over the past six years. Our current volunteer team spend every Tuesday morning study period with participating Jr. High students, teaching them to think creatively outside the box and fun shortcuts to solve difficult math problems. Tuesday sessions begin in October and continue until the end of April or early May.
Traditionally on the first Saturday in January, OSLS MathCounts participants compete in the local Livermore City competition held at Granada High School where 6th grade Mathletes match skills against other local 6th grade teams. At the same time 7th & 8th grade students compete with their respective grade levels in both written and oral math exams. Later in the spring, our top Mathletes attend the District Competition held at Cal State Hayward, Concord campus.
Additional information can be found on the official MathCounts web site.
